How Do I...?

Odor Control Project

April 29, 2016

Dear Residents:

Over recent years, the Wastewater Treatment Plant (“WWTP”) has become surrounded by greater residential development along the river resulting in more residents in close proximity to the WWTP.  With planning for more development, the Board of Directors’ goal to is to address the change of our surrounding region from Commercial/Industrial to Residential. The Board has taken an important step to improve the quality of life for the surrounding neighbors.

The Borough of Conshohocken Authority owns and operates a 2.3 Million Gallons Per Day average daily flow treatment plant using Rotating Biological Contactors and Solids Handling which are sent to a landfill for disposal.  Due to numerous odor complaints and in an effort to improve the Borough’s quality of life, the Board of Directors’ authorized Webster Environmental Associates of Louisville, Kentucky to conduct an Odor Control Study in 2014 and provide multiple methods on which we could address odor control.

Due to the results of the Odor Control Study found by Webster Environmental Associates, in February of this year 2016 the Board unanimously approved a state of the art capital improvement project that will provide odor control generated by the WWTP.  In the coming months, the construction of the Odor Control Project will be underway.  While the construction phase is in progress, certain processes will be taken out of service so tanks can be properly coated and large covers installed.  Therefore, the plant will need to operate its’ sludge handling facility more frequently while operating at half the facility’s capacity which in turn will generate odors.

The Board is very conscious of the impact the odors cause on everyday life and is committed to making the community a better place to live and play.  In the meantime, if you are experiencing odors you think may be coming from the WWTP we encourage you to call or email the WWTP.  If you call, please leave the following information: Your name, address, telephone number, time of complaint and please describe the odor as best you can.

We can be reached at 610-828-0979 or by email at conshohockensa.com.

Sincerely,

The Borough of Conshohocken Authority Board of Directors:
